Will the GRIP ONE String Winder work on acoustic, electric and bass guitar tuners?
Yes, it works on all types of tuners, even Banjo and Ukulele.
Can Tune-It be used on open gear tuning machines?
Yes, Tune It can be used on open gear tuning machines that are stuck, bent or worn. Don’t overuse and wipe excess so it does not collect dust and debris.
How often do you need to apply Tune-It?
Every string change.
Can I use Tune-It on the saddle of the bridge cover for an acoustic-electric guitar’s bridge pickup?
Yes, on the points of the saddle that the strings touch and pass over.
Can I use Tune-It on a wood nut?
Yes, depending on type of hard wood, it could color it a bit.
Where are all the locations I can apply Tune-It?
All points where the strings touch and pass through: string guides, string tree’s, saddles, nuts. It can be used on the tremolo arm threads and open gear tuning machines.
Note: Do not use on tuning machine eyelets, that is an anchor point for the string and you do not want slipping.
Can The Octopus tighten strat style recessed nuts on the jack?
Yes, the black end is a ½” socket with a thin wall.
Will The Octopus fit for tightening the nut on a Stratocaster style guitar jack?
Yes, the black end is a ½” socket with a thin wall.
Will The Octopus strip?
If used for guitar care it should not but over time you may have some wear and tear. It is a really strong special plastic so make sure you use the correct size and all 6 sides or the wrench is engaged on the the nut to avoid slipping and damage to the Octopus.
Can I use The Octopus to take off and replace tuning machine bushings?
In most cases it is great for this, but if the hex nut on the bushing is extremely tight and does not budge then you may need a thicker metal wrench to remove them to avoid damaging the Octopus.
Can I use The Octopus to tighten the nut on my strap locks?
It’s great for that if the nut matches the one of our sizes.
Joe Glaser of Glaser Instruments (Nashville, TN) on TUNE IT
This is our preferred nut and saddle lube after trying all the usual suspects. It minimizes friction nicely, doesn’t build up and, most importantly, does not affect the sound or sustain of the strings.
Joel Grant at Grant Guitars, a well respected west coast repair shop on TUNE IT,
A lot of what I have tried in the past kills the tone, and we have found TUNE IT does not dampen the tone at all while keeping the guitar in tune longer.
Musician Dustin C. posted on Facebook about the Octopus:
I just got one. Never looking back.
Sean A. posted on Facebook about the Octopus:
I got mine last week and it’s awesome. Seems really sturdy and I’ve already used to to tighten up two different guitars. Freed up some room in the gig bag.
String Theory Guitar Repair (Mount Juliet, TN) had this to say about Tune-It:
I’ve used all the products out there that claim to lubricate string friction points on guitars. They’ve all worked ok but most leave residue, dry out or slightly dampen the strings. I started using this stuff in my guitar repair shop, String Theory Guitar Repair, and it’s unlike any other product I have used before. A little goes a long way and I’ve already noticed that it all but eliminates return to pitch issues when using tremolos. I use it on every instrument that crosses my bench now. I use it on bridge saddle, nuts, string trees and even on the exposed gears in open back tuners. Great stuff!
by Skip Online Review on our MN223 GRIP ONE String Winder:
Hands down the best manual string winder out there. I’ve used D’addario, Dunlop, Planet Waves, and generic winders.
Matt Kennedy, Touring Tech for Morgan Wallen had to say about our GRIP ONE:
Finally an all-in-one string changing tool that actually works. The bearing design on these are the best I’ve seen, making this more durable than any of its competitors on the market. It’s called the “GRIP ONE” but everyone needs two of these.
