Acoustic guitar wood needs moisture to play and look its best. A dry guitar can warp, shrink and worse yet, crack! MusicNomad, the leader in equipment care products, has developed an easy to use, no mess, and low maintenance guitar humidifier. The Humitar safely releases moisture evenly to eliminate these potential problems. Our innovative Humid-i-Bar sponge holds a lot more water than our competition. This means less monitoring on your end while resting assured your fine guitar is being cared for. Time to check the Humitar? Easy! Pop the top, touch the insert; if it’s wet leave it, if it’s dry, it’s time to rehydrate. Rehydrating is a cinch – simply remove the Humid-i-Bar sponge, soak it in distilled water and you’re back in action – easy no mess and low maintenance.
My sponge looks like it has mold on it, is there a way to clean the sponge?
Make sure you are using distilled water. It is not normal for the sponge to create what sounds like mold. Make sure your work area is clean. Mold can be transferred very easily via:
- airborne mold transfer in the room or case (often times if you see dirt settling on the sponge in a mirror shape as the slats on the case holder that is a sign that your guitar is exposed to potentially dirty air transferring to the sponge.)
- dirty hands transferring it to the sponge.
There is a successful home remedy that you can use to remove the mold spots on the sponge, and it is also important to clean the Humitar Case to avoid any further issues.
Sponge:
- Submerge product in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, wringing out multiple times to ensure all solution is removed. If stains or odor should still be evident, soak in a 5:1 solution (5 parts water for 1 part liquid bleach) for about 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, wringing out multiple times to ensure all solution is removed. Let dry before filling with distilled water. Note: Product color may alter slightly.
Humitar Case:
- Submerge case in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 20 minutes. Pull out and scrub all surfaces with toothbrush style brush, rinse with water, wipe clean and let dry.
My sponge is hard and will not saturate water, what do I do?
You will need to heat up your distilled water and let the sponge soak in the water warm. With cleans hands massage the warm water in the sponge to help saturate the sponge.
Can I purchase replacement sponges?
Yes, Replacement Humitar (MN301) are available through Sweetwater, Musician’s Friend and many other online retailers and local stores.
Don, owner of DB Music & Sound (Hesperia, CA) had this to say about our Humitar Acoustic Guitar Humidifier
Our store is located in a year round dry climate with low humidity and we have been testing MusicNomad’s Humitar Humidifier the last two months and it’s lasting 2 to 3 times longer then other products and with less hassle. It’s simple to use and a great product. I’ll be switching my customers to the MusicNomad Humitar.

David Brown, musician emailed us how our Humitar saved his $12,000 Guitar:
I purchased the Soundhole Humitar after I noticed that the backstrip that goes down the middle of the back of my Limited Edition Bryan Sutton Bourgeois Dreadnaught guitar was lower than the rest of the Brazilian Rosewood back in hopes that it would correct problem, and thanks to your product after two weeks of using the Humitar the backstrip is completely flush with the rest of the guitar back. I am so happy that I purchased the Humitar that I felt obligated to email you and tell you how much I love the product and how important it is to keep your precious expensive acoustic guitars properly humidified especially in the winter months. I had been using another product that wasn’t getting the job done and now I feel safe because the Humitar really works as advertised. The best money I have ever spent to protect my $12,000.00 Bourgeois . Thanks again!
